Avanti Slingshot’s Triggers and Alerts module makes it a little bit easier to kick back, knowing that you will automatically be immediately notified of important events, from confirming an order shipment to a job being late. Imagine having the ability to set up automated emails (i.e. a quote or invoice) and eliminate manual tasks.

Mail Management (Postage)

Today, print and mail printers are asked to provide everything from creative production through to print fulfilment and distribution and are demanding a simplified approach to managing creative deliverables, manage direct mail distribution (domestic or international) and higher volume variable print capabilities at lower costs.

In this non-technical session, we will show how Avanti Slingshot has improved the mail and postage module to enable you to offer your customers a variety of options for direct mail, including creative digital integrations, postage accounting; including ACH and Endicia reconciliation.  We will also discuss the roadmap for this module and other initiatives we are working on.

Mail is growing; this is not just about customising names on a letter or envelope anymore… it is creating custom pieces to reach the right person at the right time with greater accuracy and Avanti Slingshot helps Print and Mail shops become competitive in this rapidly changing marketplace. Back to agenda

Inventory, Inventory Management, and Fulfillment & Warehouse Management

This session will provide a deeper dive to show you how to leverage these modules, focusing upon the Cost Summary, Service Item types and other tools, we will show how these can be put to use immediately to benefit your internal processes.  You can manage the process of customer order and shipments right from inventory, enabling improved management of the distribution and control of finished goods.

We will also show you how to completely manage both raw and finished goods in real-time, automated re-order, low inventory reporting, and tracking various materials, which can make your job much easier, freeing you up to focus on other business-building projects.  It is all about simplifying inventory and warehouse management and reducing waste. Back to agenda

Price Rules

Avanti Slingshot offers the ability for you to define business rules for the pricing of tasks, items, and ink based on a variety of inputs within Avanti Slingshot. For example, you might have a group of customers defined in a Customer Class where you always want to apply a 10% markup on all orders. In this session, we will discuss how to setup and manage standard price rules, using task price rules and wild cards. We will also discuss tips and tricks on how to create the most effective price rules for your organization. Back to agenda

Purchasing

The Purchasing module is used to track raw materials that need to be purchased for the completion of your jobs. We will cover the workflow of the purchasing module, as well as how it integrates with other modules in our system, such as inventory, receipts and AP payments. We will also review how to create vendors/suppliers and how to setup default markups for your purchase orders.

We will also explore a few of the important areas of Purchasing including both planned purchasing and traditional purchasing. We will continue on to outside purchasing and best practices in setting up outside purchased. Back to agenda

Accounting

Tracking and collecting accounts receivables (A/R) is crucial to your bottom line but is not always a job that is relished.  Avanti Slingshot’s Cash Receipts functionality allows you to quickly and easily manage and report on your aging receivables.  Avanti Slingshot’s Cost Accounting functionality allows you to leverage cost-based reporting; linking your revenues to their related costs in order to provide you with analysis data to ensure your business is operating with the margins you desire.

In this session, we will show how Avanti Slingshot offers robust features with tracking and reporting on Costs and the Cash Receipts Module allowing you to apply regular and freight/postage deposits to sales orders, full or partial payments against outstanding customer balances.  In addition, we will show you the added use of specialist accounts (i.e. postage escrow) enabling the ability to hold and later apply amounts received in advance from customers. This module also gives you the ability to record the payment method, track discounts and write-off amounts for outstanding balances. Shipping & Invoicing

This session will focus on the most efficient workflow to produce your packing slips and shipping labels quickly and without re-entry or errors, including the population of the shipping addresses and/or mail drop information on the Sales Order. Accurate information on the Sales Order drives the functionality in the Shipping module including blind shipments and integrations with third party carriers.

Also during this session, we will be going through the invoicing module and exploring how to get information out of the system as well as how to work with the invoicing tools to allow you to work with additional charges as well as how to manage the invoicing structure to get the most out of the module.  Being paid is a great thing. Accounting Integration

We will explore how quality and careful oversight/thought has been woven into each step of the process to ensure that the builds we ship each month are as reliable as expected.

Patrick Bolan - Avanti Systems

Patrick Bolan

As President and CEO of Avanti, Patrick Bolan is responsible for driving the company’s corporate strategy, business development and sales.

With the goal of establishing Avanti as North America’s leading provider of Print MIS solutions, Mr. Bolan has sharpened Avanti’s strategic focus and concentrated its R&D investments on three long-term growth areas: Handling Multiple lines of business (i.e. digital, offset, large format, mail and fulfillment), Business Intelligence and JDF as the integration framework to support the next-generation print shop.

Mr. Bolan was named among the Top 50 most influential people in printing by PrintAction Magazine. He has also been appointed to the Advisory Council of the Graphic Communications Management Program at Ryerson University and is a frequent speaker at Graphic Arts tradeshows and Print Association meetings and is often consulted by analysts and the media for current trends in the industry.

Mr. Bolan is a graduate of the University of Waterloo with a major in Economics.

Stephen McWilliam - Avanti Systems

Stephen McWilliam

Stephen McWilliam is the Executive Vice President for Avanti, directing all strategic marketing activities as well as Avanti’s Alliances and Partnership Strategy. His extensive market knowledge relating to the high technology and the printing industry has helped him author numerous articles in industry publications. Mr. McWilliam is also a regular speaker on topics such as Print Shop automation, Web-to-Print technologies, and leading high-growth organizations.

Mr. McWilliam has over 28 years of experience in building Phase II organizations, having held executive roles, both in Canada and Europe, in several high growth companies.

He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University as well as an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Waterloo.

When not busy working in the printing industry, Stephen is a very avid bagpiper.

John Alden - Avanti Systems

John Alden

John Alden, Vice President of sales, joined Avanti in 2013 and provides sales leadership for the Avanti Sales and Pre-sales teams, leading the development of plans and strategies for overachieving on Avanti’s sales goals.

Prior to Avanti, Mr. Alden spent 17 years with Xerox Corporation in various sales management roles, including Sales Director of Production Color, where he directed the team accountable for selling digital printing presses to commercial printers and in-plant print facilities. He generated an annual revenue stream in excess of $130M, spearheaded by the flagship Xerox iGen line of products and directed 10 program managers, called “Tigers,” with accountability for sales budget development across 11 states.

Mr. Alden was previously the Business Process/Lean Six Sigma Manager for Xerox Corporation and a senior strategic leadership team member who consulted with internal stakeholders and managers to define, focus, and clarify business issues and processes that would be improved by applying Six Sigma principles. In this role, Mr. Alden executed a full spectrum of project management functions for each initiative, improving the effectiveness and productivity of multiple areas of the organization.

Mr. Alden holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication from Cornell University

Stephen Feldman of Avanti Systems

Stephen Feldman

Stephen Feldman joined Avanti in 2016 and is responsible for providing product management leadership for the Avanti Slingshot Print MIS platform. He brings with him an extensive business development background from both software and hardware industries.

Prior to joining Avanti, Stephen gained more than 25 years of experience in Product Management with leading technology companies. He previously served as Director of Product Management for Unify (formerly Siemens), leading the team responsible for their global contact center business. He managed 350 channel partners for IT consulting and managed services provider Acrodex, including HP and Cisco. While at Microsoft Canada, he developed marketing programs to streamline customer deployment of Microsoft Office. He also has served in marketing roles with Platform Computing, Hummingbird, Cybermation, ATI Technologies and Toshiba.

Stephen is a Pragmatic Marketing Certified Practitioner (PMCP) and resides in the suburbs of Toronto, Ontario with his wife and two daughters.  In his spare time, Stephen plays the bagpipes, spends quality time with family, reading, cooking, community work with children, skiing, music, theater, teaching/coaching, personal training, development, and being an active participant in his daughters’ education.

Josh Perkins of Avanti Systems

Josh Perkins

As Product Manager of Avanti Slingshot, Josh Perkins is responsible for product design and direction, working with customers, product specialists, and programmers to develop workflow solutions from customer and industry requirements.

Josh joined Avanti in 2004 as a member of the customer support team, later moving into the Product Management department as a product specialist and ultimately into his current role. Josh is responsible for architecting many features in both Avanti Classic and Avanti Slingshot, including the JDF Framework and its certification.

Josh holds a Bachelor of Technology degree from Ryerson University and was the first in Canada to be JDF Expert Certified by the IPA. He is also Pragmatic Marketing Certified and in 2010 was voted one of 35 emerging leaders in Canada’s printing industry under 35 by PrintAction magazine.

In his spare time, Josh enjoys playing golf, baseball, and soccer.

Eli Wallach of Avanti

Eli Wallach, Certified JDF Expert

Eli Wallach has been with Avanti since 2014 and has primarily been involved in product support, implementation, and integration consulting. His time at Avanti started as a Product Support Specialist where Eli helped customers with day-to-day questions and problems. Today, he is responsible for a more hands-on role as an implementation consultant and integration specialist, helping ensure customer success as they move towards going live with Avanti Slingshot and it’s various advanced integrations.

Eli has a background in print from a technical and business standpoint and has been involved in the print industry since 2005. As a Ryerson University Graphic Communications Management graduate, Eli has training and experience in areas such as prepress, print production, bindery as well as various business areas of print including estimating, account management and marketing. More recently, Eli achieved his certification as a JDF expert, furthering his expertise with workflow automation.

Randy Moore

Randy Moore joined Avanti in July 2014 and works in Product Management as an Estimating Specialist. To this role, Randy brings his print knowledge, experience, and empathy for the role of the estimator.

Prior to joining Avanti Randy gained 30 years’ experience in the world of commercial printing. Most recently as Manager of Production Planning and Order Entry for Transcontinental Printing – Aurora and previously as Estimating Manager for Quebecor and Quebecor World in Richmond Hill and Aurora Ontario. Randy graduated in 1984 from Ryerson with the degree of Bachelor of Technology, Graphic Arts.

In his spare time, Randy enjoys woodworking, traveling, and watching the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Geoff Barker

A recent addition to the Avanti team, Geoff Barker is a Product Specialist with a specific focus on Large and Grand Format.

Before joining Avanti, Geoff spent close to 25 years in the Printing industry and has held roles in Production, Operations and Account Management. The last 15 of those years were in the Large Format Digital segment, most recently as General Manager overseeing Sales, Customer Service, Prepress, Printing / Finishing and Shipping / Distribution. His experience brings a “real world” perspective to helping develop Avanti Slingshot.

Geoff holds a Bachelor of Technology degree from Ryerson University. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling and tennis and has been known to sample local Ontario whiskeys, but only on occasion.

Arron Robinson has been with Avanti since 2010 and has held a number of roles including Senior Implementation Specialist, consulting with customers to ensure their success and, most recently, as a Technical Pre-sales Specialist, supporting Avanti’s Product Management and Sales teams. Arron has been involved in the Avanti Slingshot project since the early brainstorming sessions and currently works with the sales teams of Avanti’s strategic partners, in a technical capacity, to support their go-to-market efforts in both America and Europe. He is also involved with the CIP4 MIS Working Group.

Arron has been involved in the print industry since the late ’80s when he worked in a service bureau that produced stats, film, and slides. He headed up the effort, in the Minneapolis area, with a number of printing companies who were looking to ride the technology wave into Electronic Prepress, Scanning and CTP, along with managing scheduling and production.

In 1997, he made the transition into the vendor side of the industry, joining Heidelberg. While with Heidelberg, Arron continuing to work in automation systems, focusing on PDF and JDF workflows and their integration and communication with Print MIS, Web-to-Print and production systems.

When he is not working, he is involved with his local and state beekeeping organizations, focusing on pollinator health and availability.

Rose Smith

Rose Smith has been with Avanti since January 2016, and is a Product Specialist in Product Management, specializing in the design, validation and quality assurance of accounting components, modules and reporting within the Avanti Slingshot enterprise solution.

Before joining Avanti, Rose worked for several years in IT Enterprise solutions and as an Accountant leveraging her Certified Personal Accounting (CPA) credentials. She also assists Avanti’s Corporate Accounting department to aid in completing her designation as a CPA.

Rose holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Athabasca University and IT College Diploma and is an Enterprise Solutions 5X award winning professional while working for Changepoint/Compuware.    Rose also received Avant’s Avanti Outstanding New Employee award for 2016.

She is a dedicated wife and mother of two darling daughters.

Bob Rottner (Sull Graphics, Controller)

Bob Rottner joined Sull Graphics in 2014 as the Controller.  Bob’s responsibilities include supervision of all financial matters for the company, including the management and use of Avanti Slingshot. Bob was an integral part of the Slingshot implementation at Sull, and he is the primary day-to-day contact for Sull personnel who use Slingshot.

Prior to joining Sull, Bob gained more than 35 years of experience in Finance Management and Business Operations with distribution and manufacturing companies. He previously served as Assistant Controller at Imerys, USA, and he was the lead in the conversion and implementation of its General Ledger to Dynamics AX. Prior to Imerys USA, Bob served as the Controller of Krazy Glue, where he led the conversion from manual systems to a proprietary software, managed four distribution centers, and developed inventory processes and controls.

Bob is originally from Jersey City, NJ, but he and his wife, JoAnn, have resided in Marietta, GA (a suburb of Atlanta) for the past 22 years.  Bob’s three children and their spouses also live in the Atlanta area. In his spare time, Bob most enjoys spending time with any (or all) of his 5 grandchildren.
